The project will construct a one-mile stretch of second main track from Solana Beach into Del Mar, replace the nearly 100-year-old wooden trestle rail bridge over the San Dieguito River with a modern, concrete double-track bridge, and add a new special events rail platform on the west side of the fairgrounds. San Diego is working to incorporate a safe and legal public undercrossing under the south end of the rail bridge. The project is part of the Interstate 5 North Coast Corridor Program, a comprehensive package of highway, rail and transit, and coastal access improvements, which spans 27 miles from Oceanside to La Jolla.
PanGIS worked on various phases of this project producing GIS databases of survey areas, testing units, artifacts, and archaeological features from high-precision GPS data. The GIS data were used to create detailed maps of cultural resources.
