Major Utility East County Substation Project “ECO”

Project Overview:

The new, state-of-the-art substation connects future wind farms and other renewable energy projects to the transmission system, allowing clean, emissions-free electricity to flow to local customers. The project delivers clean power into the electric grid by to the existing Southwest Powerlink transmission line. This project, together with the Sunrise Powerlink, will help meet state requirements to produce 33% of power from renewable sources by 2020.

Scope of Work:

PanGIS maintained the Cultural Resource GIS and managed the GPS data for the project. Staff created time sensitive maps for the reviewing agencies including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). PanGIS also provided the lead cultural monitor, organized archaeological staff and Native American monitor scheduling, as well as daily management plans and reports.
