Merrimack Solar wants to build a solar facility on approximately 30 acres in Orange County, CA. In order to meet the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the City of Anaheim’s Citywide Historic Preservation Plan and Mills Act Guidelines, the applicants had to provide a cultural resource study that includes a records search, a Sacred Lands File Search with the Native American Heritage Commission (NAHC), a survey of the project area, and a technical report summarizing findings.
PanGIS was retained to conduct the archaeological studies for this project. The record search was conducted at the South Central Coastal Information Center (SCCIC), located at California State University, Fullerton. A Sacred Lands File Search was conducted with the NAHC, with follow up letters regarding the planned project to the identified tribal groups. The intensive survey proved challenging due to limited access, steep slopes, dense vegetation, and poor ground visibility. PanGIS Senior Archaeologists completed the technical report.
