Archaeological Pedestrian Survey of the Baker Bay – West Sand Island

Baker Bay Wet Sand Island

Project Overview:

USACE Portland District is planning to rehabilitate the Baker Bay – West Sand Island pile dike system in order to reduce maintenance dredging, shoaling, and shoreline erosion on West Sand Island. USACE will need access to the West Sand Island shoreline and will create a staging area and a haul road. USACE also plans to place sand or a rock revetment on the shoreline to help prevent future erosion.

Scope of Work:

PanGIS PI led a team of qualified staff providing services to support the rehabilitation. They performed a record search of cultural resources with approval to Oregon Archaeological Records Remote Access OARRA) and Washington Information System for Architectural & Archaeological Records Data (WISAARD), prepared a short literature summary report, performed an archaeological pedestrian survey of the shoreline, staging area, and shoreline placement area, recorded new cultural resources observed during the survey and prepared the final survey report and site forms.
